Design and development with a global sportswear brand to create a set of high-performance running garments that enables the consumer to visualise the performance of their own body through colour change. Together with a world leading thermos physiologist at the University of Portsmouth and the client’s apparel innovation team, T H E U N S E E N analysed primary data to build up a comprehensive thermo profile of an athlete during exercise.
A 12-month product development collaboration resulted in a set of truly unique and pioneering garments utilising a visualisation of body temperature, scientifically proven to be the most accurate indicator of athlete performance, short of taking blood or attaching electronics.
Each garment reacts to the body temperature of the runner and naturally evolves depending on environmental conditions – the ultimate personalised running experience. The design contained 5 different colour changes, each Pantone referenced to our client’s branding, can be programmed around different patterns of colour change (either turned on or off, or built up gradually) and meets commercial manufacturing standards.
“Athlete’s data, combined with your technology within apparel, offers exciting possibilities to visually indicate performance”
